Silent Night, Santa & More
 Christmas Play 09
The St. Demetrios Sunday School Program wishes to thank Angela and Tom Butoryak for chairing this year's wonderful Christmas program, Silent Night. We also wish to thank the Sunday School teachers, parents, and office staff as well as Max Shewell, Ted Maroutsos, and Yianni Maroutsos for their assistance with the program.  We are grateful to Kathy Sampson who chaired our Christmas service project for First Place School; we raised $459 and also donated several bags of clothing.  Finally, many thanks to Greg and Nina Sankey for their donation of paper icons for our Sunday School children.

Santa also came to town for family photos and our GOYAns and JOY youth raised just over $100 for First Place at our 1st annual Christmas Shop.  Thank you to George Tramountanas and Georgia Teodosiadis helping with both events.  Thanks also to our GOYA & JOY elves who took pictures and worked at the Christmas Shop.

Families can pick up their Photos with Santa in the Large hall this Sunday, December 27th after Liturgy.

Fasting in January

The Tradition of the Church teaches us that the twelve days of Christmas are celebrated from December 25th through January 5th.

The first eleven days of Christmas, December 25th through January 4th, are fast free. Meat, fish and dairy products can be eaten even on Wednesdays and Fridays throughout this ten-day period. The 12th day of Christmas is January 5th, the fore-feast of Theophany, which is a strict fast day. And finally, the feast of Theophany is always fast free no matter what day of the week it falls on.

Please remember never fast to the detriment of your health. Always follow your doctors orders and finally, prayer without fasting and almsgiving is nothing more than a diet.
